| Aug 7 | MCB Picnic/Bar-B-Q/Potluck dinner at Dexter-Huron Metropark 11am - ?? ( EC - Jim E ) Join us for our annual picnic at a new location this year. This time we head out just a little west of Ann Arbor for a fun day at the Dexter-Huron Metropark. This park is not that big so finding us should be fairly easy. We will try to setup somewhere around the Central Shelter in the back of the park. Map below and also in the files section of the Members only Yahoo group. Escape your routine and get rejuvenated by the peaceful sights and sounds of nature at this 122-acre site, just 7 1/2 miles northwest of Ann Arbor. Observe vibrant, unique blossoms throughout the spring and summer which include harbinger-of-springs, false rue anemones, purple cresses, and trout lilies. This heavily wooded park offers shady picnic areas, swings, slides, a softball diamond, fishing, and convenient canoe launching. Come out and enjoy the day at Dexter-Huron Metropark. MCB will be providing the burgers, dogs, buns and condiments, and we encourage everyone to bring their favorite beverage as well as a dish to pass based on the first letter of your last name. Your cooperation will help assure that we don't have too many of one item and not enough of another.
DRINK RESTRICTIONS: The Metro parks will allow beer and wine in the picnic areas only. No other liquor is allowed. We will start grilling somewhere around 3:00 PM. So come on out to Dexter-Huron Metro Park for a fun day with MCB. Here are basic directions to the picnic (link to directions below).  Directions: From the East and North areas: Take M-14 West to exit # 3, (Ann Arbor business 23), watch close for Huron River Drive it's right at the end of the off ramp.... Turn Right at Huron River Drive and drive approximately 7 Miles (very scenic) Dexter/Huron Metro Park will be on your left. From Jackson: Take 94 east to Zeeb Road, go North to Huron River Drive, turn left. Please let us know if you are attending by Aug 5th. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is very good and there is a good variety on the menu, there is something for everyone. Dinner prices are very reasonable with prices from $8 to $20, most being from $9 to $13 including salad. The customer rating is almost a full 5 stars which you don't see very often. Here are some of the comments: • Yummy! I moved to Michigan again a couple years ago and I can honestly say this is the best Arabic food I have had. It's across the street from Super Greenland supermarket on Warren Ave (East of Schaefer Rd). It's a double hitter this time with heading over to Shatila after dinner for dessert (it's right down the street). This is where the desserts came from for the anniversary dinner. Most desserts are only $1 or less and the quality is great. The building itself is something to see with the waterfall and dome eating area. It will be a great night of food to remember! Do Bears sleep in the woods? Of course they do! (along with other things). Come on out for a fun filled weekend at CampIt Resort for their annual Mr Campit Bear/Cub weekend. We are planning a fall MCB event at Campit. Everyone will be on their own for reservations. If interest please set up your reservations soon. This weekend will sell out. The earlier the reservation, the better. They are accepting reservations starting now. The sign up information at the bottom of this post is purely for letting other club members know that you are going. IT WILL NOT RESERVE YOU ANYTHING AT THE CAMPGROUND! Some of the highlights of the weekend include: - Clothing optional midnight swim. - Mr. Campit Bear/Cub contest (winners receive run packages to a several different runs). - Transportation to the Dunes Resort for Mr. Michigan Leather Weekend the same weekend. - Other poolside activities throughout the weekend sponsored by various clubs. - Chance to co mingle and network with bears from other clubs (last year SWMI Bears, Great Lakes Bears (Chicago), and Show-Me Bears (St. Louis) were all represented there). Camping rates and options are as follows: (per night) - Tent Sites: $20 (add $6 for electric). - RV sites: $55 for full hookup (electric, water, sewer). - Sleeper Cabins: $99. Cabins include Queen Size Bed, Heat/AC, Ceiling Fan, Refrigerator, porch, Picnic Table and Fire Pit. Bring your own linens or rent linens (includes towels) for $10. - Bed and Breakfast: $85 per room with shared bath. ($125 with private bath). - Vintage Rental Trailers: $70-$125 depending on trailer. * * * Please check with their website for latest prices * * * If you want to go, there are a few things you should know: -The cabins in the Westwood Area are a bit of a walk. The campground rents Golf Carts. However, they are limited, and you need to reserve them well in advance. Again, the sooner the better. -When you call to make your reservation, you will need a credit card. All reservations are NON REFUNDABLE. I went last year and it was a lot of fun!
